The guests appeared set to stun Stamford Bridge when Grant Holt pounced on a horrible error from Hilario to equalise and Drogba appeared to be knocked unconscious in an aerial problem with John Ruddy.
But Frank Lampard scored from the penalty spot after Ruddy was sent off and Juan Mata scored on his debut, incorporating to Jose Bosingwa's very first goal for virtually three many years.
It looked to be anyone's video game adhering to Holt's equaliser on 63 minutes but all that changed with just over ten minutes remaining when a outstanding Chelsea breakaway brought a penalty and a red card for Ruddy. Nicolas Anelka sent Ramires racing distinct and he was brought down by the onrushing goalkeeper.
Paul Lambert, the Norwich manager, appeared to be furious with the Chelsea bench next the dismissal and Lampard blasted the penalty straight down the center prior newcomer Declan Rudd.
Branislav Ivanovic somehow failed to kill the contest when he headed wide from a few yards and Lampard also missed on the rebound after Romelu Lukaku, an additional Chelsea debutant, hit a shot that was saved in the 11 minutes of stoppage-time that followed.
But Mata's debut ended in dream fashion as Ritchie De Laet presented him with the ball in the ultimate minute and he slotted outside of Rudd.
